Betting Sites in Kenya: Online Betting, GRA Licences and M-Pesa Payouts

Betting sites in Kenya answer to the Gambling Regulatory Authority, pay 5% excise on deposits and hold back 5% of each payout, so the licence number and the bonus rollover now matter more than the headline percentage. A GRA number appears beside each ranked brand that holds one, with the offer's floor, its rollover and its M-Pesa route.

Kenya betting sites ranked for 2026

Kenya betting sites ranked for 2026

Kenya betting sites with a GRA number sit beside offshore brands in the ranking, because both kinds take Kenyan sign-ups, and each is shown with the licence it actually holds. Partner order decides the sequence; price and licence are printed, not ranked.

Each row prints the welcome as the bookmaker words it, the deposit that unlocks it, the rollover with its leg and odds minimums, the days allowed and the cashier's named methods. A blank cell means the brand has published no Kenyan figure for it.

  1. 1win

    1win

1win's welcome arrives in four instalments, from 100% of the first deposit to 150% of the fourth, with free spins attached. Every shilling of it has to be turned over in the casino's Bonus Wagering games, so a punter who lives on the betslip gets nothing from it. No GRA number; Android app from the brand's domain.

  2. 22Bet

    22Bet

GRA licence BK 0001293 sits in 22Bet's footer; a KSh 150 deposit unlocks a 100% match capped at KSh 15,000. Clearing it takes 5 turnovers of three-leg (or longer) multibets priced 1.40 and up, inside a week. The cashier names M-Pesa, Airtel Money, cards, bank transfer and Bitcoin; apps cover Android and iOS.

  3. BetWinner

    BetWinner

BetWinner, licensed in Curaçao, doubles a first deposit of KSh 120 or more, to a KSh 15,000 ceiling. The rollover follows the same 5x, three-leg rule as 22Bet, but the clock runs 30 days. M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Skrill, Neteller, cards, bank transfer and Bitcoin all appear; apps exist for Android and iOS.

  4. Melbet

    Melbet

Melbet carries GRA licence BK 0001174 and pays the largest shilling match in the ranking, 200% up to KSh 25,700 from a KSh 130 deposit. The cost is an 8x rollover on three-leg multibets at 2.10 or higher, inside 30 days. Android and iOS apps are published.

  5. 1xBet

    1xBet

1xBet holds GRA licence BK 0001232 and matches 200% up to KSh 20,000 from KSh 112. The bonus arrives in two halves. One half follows the 5x sports rule; the other clears 30 times in the 1xGames section. Both run for 30 days, and apps exist for Android and iOS.

  6. Paripesa

    Paripesa

Paripesa offers 100% up to KSh 14,000 on the first deposit and publishes Android and iOS apps. No Kenyan licence number appears on its site, and the Kenyan offer page states no rollover, so the headline is the only confirmed figure.

  7. 888starz

    888starz

888Starz carries BK 0001297 on the GRA list; its sports welcome is 200%, and a separate casino deal adds another 200% with 150 free spins. The sports part caps at KSh 15,000, shares the 22Bet deposit floor, and needs 10 turnovers within 7 days, the heaviest rollover among the shilling offers.

  8. Linebet

    Linebet

Linebet's paperwork is Curaçao licence OGL/2024/565/0553, and its first-deposit match is 100%, capped at the shilling equivalent of €100. Android and iOS apps are available. The Kenyan offer page states no rollover, so the headline is the only confirmed figure.

  9. Mozzartbet

    Mozzartbet

Mozzartbet Kenya Limited is BK 0001188 on the GRA list; a newcomer gets a 50% free bet capped at KSh 2,500 plus KSh 10 Aviator free bets. Play the first deposit within a week on four-pick (or bigger) slips at 1.70 and up, and the free bet is credited within 15 minutes. M-Pesa is the cashier.

18+ only. Betting carries risk; stake what you can afford to lose. Terms apply at the bookmaker.

If you want winnings back through the same M-Pesa line you deposited from, start with 22Bet, BetWinner or Mozzartbet, whose Kenyan cashier pages name M-Pesa. The rest take cards, bank transfers or crypto for deposits, and their Kenyan withdrawal routes are unpublished.

What betting sites with welcome bonus ask of you

Betting sites with welcome bonus terms in shillings fall into two camps. One camp lets the bonus go after 5 turnovers of three-leg multibets at 1.40; the other holds out for 8 or 10 turnovers or a steeper minimum price. The percentage sets the size of the bonus. The rollover decides whether you ever withdraw it.

Take the 22Bet offer as the worked case. Deposit KSh 5,000 first and the bonus is another KSh 5,000. Five turnovers on KSh 5,000 is KSh 25,000 of settled multibets, every slip three legs or more at 1.40 and up, inside seven days.

At an average stake of KSh 500 that is 50 qualifying slips in a week. A daily multibet player gets there; a weekend-only punter falls short.

Melbet's match is twice that, 200% to KSh 25,700, priced at 8 turnovers with legs of 2.10 or more. The same KSh 5,000 therefore yields KSh 10,000 of bonus and a KSh 80,000 debt in longer-priced stakes.

1xBet cuts its 200% down the middle: half under the 5x sports rule, half to be turned 30 times in 1xGames, a deal for someone already playing in that section.

Pick the offer by the slips you already place. Three-leg accumulators fit 22Bet, BetWinner and the sports half of 1xBet. If multibets are rare in your week, Mozzartbet's free-bet model costs the least, because one qualifying deposit played through once releases it.

Offers that credit cash before any deposit are covered on the free bonus on registration page.

Betting companies in Kenya on the GRA list

Betting companies in Kenya on the GRA list

Betting companies in Kenya appear on the GRA licensed operators list under their registered company name with a BK licence number. The list published for the 2025/26 period is the one to check today. Betika trades as Shop & Deliver Limited, SportPesa as Milestone Games Limited and betPawa as Nanovas International (K) Ltd, so search the company column.

Among the ranked brands, 22Bet (BK 0001293), Melbet (BK 0001174), 1xBet (BK 0001232), 888Starz (BK 0001297) and Mozzartbet (BK 0001188) hold Kenyan numbers. BetWinner, Linebet and the crypto bookmakers hold Curaçao or Anjouan licences and sit outside the Kenyan register.

The Kenyan bookmakers in the table carry BK numbers to match against the list and no links. A Kenyan licence requires a registered local company, a physical address in Kenya and a customer care centre inside the country.

A disputed payout with a GRA licensee therefore has somewhere to go; with a foreign brand it has nowhere but the brand. Once stakes grow large enough for a complaint route to count, the licensed brand is the one to hold them.

How to vet new betting sites in Kenya before you deposit

How to vet new betting sites in Kenya before you deposit

New betting sites in Kenya arrive every few months, and the GRA list is the only reliable test of whether one is licensed. The highest BK numbers on the current list among the ranked brands belong to 888Starz (BK 0001297) and 22Bet (BK 0001293); BongoBongo, trading as Kensen Limited, holds BK 0001224.

A fresh brand that quotes no BK number, or one that fails to match its company name on gra.go.ke, is operating offshore whatever its adverts say.

  1. At gra.go.ke the licensed operators page is searched by the company name printed in the brand's footer. Several brands share a parent company, so the brand name alone proves little.
  2. Check the paybill or till number on the deposit page against the name M-Pesa shows on the confirmation prompt. A licensed bookmaker's paybill resolves to the licensee.
  3. Place a KSh 20 single, the legal minimum stake under section 71, and withdraw the return to M-Pesa before you deposit anything larger. The two-day payout rule in section 70 applies from the first win.
  4. The bonus terms have three lines that matter: minimum legs, minimum odds, the clock. A site that hides the rollover behind a pop-up has already told you how it treats customers.
  5. Look for a Kenyan customer care number. The 2025 Act requires a care centre in Kenya, and a foreign WhatsApp number alone fails that test.

Start new accounts with the smallest deposit the welcome offer allows, which is KSh 100 at Mozzartbet, KSh 112 at 1xBet and KSh 120 at BetWinner, so a bad experience costs little.

Sports betting in Kenya on football and the FKF Premier League

Sports betting in Kenya on football and the FKF Premier League

Sports betting in Kenya is football betting first. Kenyan money goes mostly on the match result, double chance, over or under 2.5 goals and both teams to score, and on the multibets built out of them.

Every sports rollover in the ranking is written for multibets of three legs or more, so the accumulator is what each bonus is built around.

The FKF Premier League runs on weekends with midweek rounds. Its fixtures fill the board next to the ranking, each with the best 1X2 price at the ranked books, so who prices Gor Mahia or Bandari highest is visible before any app opens. Results from the past few days sit under the second tab.

The biggest turnover goes on the English Premier League and Harambee Stars qualifiers; La Liga and the Champions League follow. Every shilling bookmaker in the ranking carries in-play markets, cash out and virtual football.

Aviator and the other crash games sit in the casino tabs of 1win, 1xBet, Melbet and Mozzartbet, and Mozzartbet's welcome adds Aviator free bets. How the game pays out and how the withholding tax applies to each cash-out are covered on the Aviator in Kenya page.

The betting apps page compares the Android and iOS downloads, and the online casino page covers slots and live tables on the licensed brands.

If your weekend is one accumulator on Saturday and one on Sunday, choose by price. Each round the board shows who has the best 1X2 odds, and 5% extra on every slip beats a bonus that never clears.

Online betting in Kenya with M-Pesa, Airtel Money and crypto

Online betting in Kenya with M-Pesa, Airtel Money and crypto

Online betting deposits in Kenya run through M-Pesa for most punters, and the flow is the same at every licensed bookmaker. Open the deposit page, choose M-Pesa, enter the amount, and approve the STK prompt that lands on your phone with your M-Pesa PIN. Where a site uses a paybill, the account number is your registered phone number.

Since Safaricom lifted the M-Pesa ceilings (KSh 250,000 a transaction, KSh 500,000 a day), the bookmaker's own cashier limit is what caps a deposit.

Since 1 July 2026 the Finance Act 2026 charges excise at the deposit stage. KSh 1,000 deposited therefore costs KSh 1,050, or credits KSh 950, according to how the bookmaker presents it. A withdrawal to M-Pesa gives up 5% in withholding, and KSh 2,000 arrives as KSh 1,900.

Among the ranked brands, 22Bet and BetWinner list both M-Pesa and Airtel Money together with Visa, Mastercard and bank transfer; Mozzartbet lists M-Pesa. The 2025 Act bars credit cards, so any card deposit must be a debit card.

The crypto bookmakers below accept Bitcoin and other coins directly and quote their offers in dollars. They hold Curaçao or Anjouan licences, charge no Kenyan excise, withhold no Kenyan tax, and offer no GRA complaint route.

Wherever a bookmaker lists M-Pesa it is the route, with one number for deposits and account so the withdrawal clears without a verification hold. Treat crypto deposits as a choice for punters who already hold coins; the exchange spread on buying Bitcoin for a KSh 1,000 bet costs more than the excise it avoids.

Is betting legal in Kenya?

Betting is legal in Kenya for adults aged 18 and over with an operator licensed under the Gambling Control Act, No. 14 of 2025, in force since 26 August 2025.

The Act repealed the Betting, Lotteries and Gaming Act (Cap. 131) and replaced the Betting Control and Licensing Board with the Gambling Regulatory Authority, whose first licence round closed on 24 September 2026.

Licences issued by the old board stayed valid until their own expiry. Section 79 is aimed at offshore sites: an unlicensed foreign operator accepting Kenyan bets commits an offence, and the company can be fined as much as KSh 50 million. The duty and the penalty fall on the operator.

The Act also fixes the payment channels a licensee may use: mobile money, debit cards, electronic transfer and cash. Legal Notices 111 to 114, gazetted on 29 June 2026, hold the conduct and advertising rules the GRA now applies.

For a Kenyan punter the practical difference is the complaint route. Every GRA licensee has to run a Kenyan customer care desk, pay online prizes inside two days and hand back dormant balances after three months. The GRA complaints desk and the Gambling Appeals Tribunal sit behind those duties, and an offshore brand owes you none of them.

Betting tax in Kenya in 2026

Betting tax in Kenya in 2026

Betting tax in Kenya is collected at two points. The Finance Act 2026 charges 5% excise on each deposit from 1 July 2026, and the Finance Act 2025 set a 5% withholding tax on any amount a bookmaker pays into your account. Both are deducted by the licensed operator.

KSh 50 leaves a KSh 1,000 deposit before the first bet, and KSh 200 leaves a KSh 4,000 payout on the way out. Lottery and prize-competition winnings follow a different rule: the 2026 definition of winnings for those products carries a 20% withholding rate. A football multibet is a sportsbook payout, so the 5% rate applies.

Offshore bookmakers deduct neither charge, and what gets advertised as betting sites with no tax in Kenya is the offshore group, brands with no GRA licence; the excise is compulsory for every licensee.

Work the tax into the stake arithmetic. A 5% hit on the payout means a 1.90 price on a licensed site pays the same as 1.805 with no deduction. A licensed and a foreign price on the same match are compared after that haircut.

Kenyan punters' questions about betting sites

How do I check whether a bookmaker has a GRA licence?

On gra.go.ke the licensed operators page is searched by company name; the brand name rarely appears there. Betika appears as Shop & Deliver Limited and SportPesa as Milestone Games Limited, each with a BK number. A brand missing from that list operates offshore, even when it takes M-Pesa.

Is online betting legal in Kenya?

Yes. The Gambling Control Act, No. 14 of 2025 (in force since 26 August 2025) handed licensing to the Gambling Regulatory Authority. Adults of 18 and over can bet with any GRA licensee. Section 79 makes it an offence for an unlicensed foreign site to take Kenyan bets.

How much tax comes off betting winnings in Kenya?

A 5% withholding tax comes off any amount the bookmaker pays into your account, under the Finance Act 2025. Since 1 July 2026 the Finance Act 2026 adds 5% excise at the deposit stage. Lottery and prize-competition winnings sit on their own 20% rate.

What is the minimum stake at a Kenyan betting site?

The Gambling Control Act's section 71 puts the floor on a stake at KSh 20. A bookmaker can set a higher floor on particular markets, but it cannot accept a bet below KSh 20, online or in a shop.

Can I deposit with a credit card?

No. The Gambling Control Act bars credit cards as a way to fund bets. Deposits run through mobile money, debit cards, bank transfer or cash at a shop, which is why M-Pesa and Airtel Money dominate the cashier pages of licensed sites.

How quickly must a bookmaker pay out an online win?

An online prize has to be credited inside two days (section 70). Mobile money payouts from licensed sites usually arrive within minutes, but two days is the legal ceiling, and a longer delay is grounds for a complaint to the GRA.

What happens to money left idle in a betting account?

Under the 2025 Act an operator must return a balance that has sat unused for three months. Keep the phone number on the account active, because the refund travels back through the same mobile money line the deposit came from.

Where do I complain about a betting company in Kenya?

Use the complaints page on gra.go.ke or the toll-free line 0800-723-770. If the GRA decision leaves the matter open, you can take it to the Gambling Appeals Tribunal within 14 days of that decision.
