The online casino licence under the 2025 Act
The Gambling Control Act, in force since 26 August 2025, separates the online casino licence from the online bookmaker licence and from the online lottery. The Gambling Regulatory Authority issues each.
The Gambling Control (Licensing) Regulations, gazetted on 30 June 2026 and in force from 1 July, set the online casino licence fee at KSh 50 million with a KSh 5 million application fee.
Licences issued by the old Betting Control and Licensing Board stay valid until their own expiry, which is why the 2025/26 GRA list still shows BK numbers for the bookmakers whose lobbies carry casino games. As those licences lapse, each operator applies under the new classes.
